IDIDEP YOUTHS’ DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (IYODA)

Brief History:The history of Ididep Youths’ Development Association (IYODA) dates back to December 28, 1968, when a group of Ididep youths then came together to form Ididep Students’ Union (ISU) with Mr Andy Onyung as pioneer President, and the object of catering for the collective interest of Ididep boys and girls in post-primary institutions. ISU was later renamed Ididep Academic Union (IAU) on August 03, 1975, with Mr Anietimfon Akpan Ekoi as President to embrace the interest of those who had graduated from post-primary institutions and were no longer interested in membership of ISU. IAU was renamed Ididep Academic Club (IAC) on August 15, 1976, to meet the registration requirement of the Social Welfare Department at Itu at the time, while Mr Daniel Bassey Ukem took charge as the President.

But in 1977 the name was changed to Ididep Youths’ Club to cater for the overall interest of Ididep youths in general, and in 1978 the name was registered at Itu with Mr Godwin Archibong Umo as President. An attempt to rename it Ididep Progressive Forum earlier in 1999 was not quite popular. It was finally renamed Ididep Youths’ Development Association (IYODA) on December 31, 1999, at a well attended Ididep youths assembly at Ikot Odiong Ididep.
